The first, and most common, problem is pollution. From dust, to smog, to grease, elements can become trapped in the hair follicles and be transferred to the skin. This block the pores, and causes white heads, black heads, and pimples to form under the skin.

The second, and also common, problem is the use of hair care products. Mousse, styling gel, and renewing oils are the main contenders for skin issues, as they are greasy and full of pore-clogging agents. But certain shampoos and conditioners can cause the skin of the face to dry out, which is another cause of acne.

The last problem is styling itself. Tight ponytails will often draw the skin of the forehead taut, which leaves the skin dry. Dry skin leads to acne, in many cases, especially without a good moisturizer to counter the effects.
